If You’re new to photography, all of the technical language can be pretty daunting. Here’s a quick rundown of some essential photography vocabulary to help you get started.
Aperture: The size of the opening in the lens through which light passes to reach the sensor. A wider aperture lets in more light and creates a shallower depth of field.
Shutter speed: The amount of time that the shutter is open, letting light into the camera. A faster shutter speed will freeze motion, while a slower shutter speed will create a blur.
ISO: The sensitivity of the sensor to light. A higher ISO will make the sensor more sensitive, resulting in a brighter image, but too high of an ISO can create graininess.
White balance: The color temperature of the light. Incorrect white balance will result in an image with a color cast.
Composition: The arrangement of elements in an image. Good composition can make an ordinary photo look amazing.
